Direct to Garment (DTG) printing is basically modified inkjet printing where instead of printing on paper we print onto garments.
But don’t try feeding a t-shirt through your desktop printer at home... you’ll ruin both the t-shirt and the printer! We use industry leading Kornit DTG machines to achieve the high street quality prints with a larger colour gamut than possible with any other digital printer. Kornits use the standard CMYK channels augmented with additional red and green channels.
DTG machines hold the garment in a fixed position and lay down speciality ink through a print head. Our Kornits use a water-based eco-friendly ink that’s suitable for vegans. The ink is cured with the garment fibres through a combination of a fixation agent and a tunnel drier.
Is DTG printing worth it?
Absolutely! DTG printing is a digital print method used on clothing. The method prints your artwork directly onto the fabric using eco-friendly, water-based inks. This allows for intricate detail and a soft hand finish which makes it perfect for complex or colourful artwork, even photos! At Inkthreadable, we’ve helped clients from a huge variety of industries with direct-to-garment printing. Contact us to discuss our DTG printing service.
Is DTG printing durable, and how long does a DTG print last?
We use Kornit DTG printers, including the Atlas Max, which produce industry-leading and retail-ready quality and durability. As long as the garment is washed according to our care instructions, your print should stay vibrant for many washes to come! We offer a 12-month guarantee on all of our DTG prints, too!
How much does DTG printing cost?
There isn’t one set fee for DTG printing at Inkthreadable. The prices of DTG printing vary depending on the garment. There are no hidden print setup fees or extra charges. The cost depends on the garment you choose, with prices varying based on brand, material and style. For example, organic cotton is generally more expensive than regular cotton. When a customer makes an order on your website, you simply cover the product cost on our side and take the profits.
Which garments are best suited for DTG printing?
For best results, we recommend choosing a blank product with 100% cotton. Our product range includes garments that are specifically tested and approved for DTG printing. Garments with a poly-cotton blend can also be used, but this may affect the vibrancy of the print. Get in touch with the friendly Inkthreadable team, who are experts in DTG, to find out more.
