11 frame colours, mounts and new prices from 14 September

Last updated: 2 September 2026
In short
From 14 September 2026, Inkthreadable's framed prints come in 11 colours instead of three, and every A2, A3 and A4 frame can be supplied with a mount.
Black, white and oak frames are updated to match the same specification as the new colours. Prices update on the day the new frames go live.
If your products are integrated with us, they'll move to the new frames automatically, unless you tell us otherwise.
What's changing?
From 14 September, the current framed art print product will be replaced with an updated product offering the same white, black and oak frame colours alongside eight new colours. Mounts will be available for framed prints, depending on size. This means the volume of possible variants will increase substantially.
Prices are also increasing slightly to relect an increase in quality. The prices this new product will launch with are detailed below.
What a mount is
A mount is a board with a window cut in it that sits between the print and the glazing. It holds the artwork off the acrylic and gives it a border, which is the difference between a print that looks framed and one that looks fitted. In America this is known as matting, and worldwide it's commonly referred to as a passe-partout.
Inkthreadable mounts are 1.4 mm conservation board in Iced White, acid-free and pH neutral between 7.5 and 9.5. The window is cut to a true A-ratio, which means a design file saved to the A-ratio will fit uniformly and consistently. There's a slight overlap where the mount will cover the print, and we have created new template files to help you allow for it when you prepare your print files.
You can download the template files here.
How a mount works
A2 mounted frame, drawn to scale. The dashed rectangle is the A3 print; the mount overlaps the edge of the print to avoid gaps.
| Framed size | Visible image | Inches |
|---|---|---|
| A2 mounted holds an A3 print | 287 × 406 mm | 11.3 × 16.0 in |
| A3 mounted holds an A4 print | 200 × 283 mm | 7.9 × 11.1 in |
| A4 mounted holds an A5 print | 138 × 195 mm | 5.4 × 7.7 in |
The window is cut to the same 1:√2 ratio as the A-series paper, so full-bleed artwork fills it without being cropped. A5 frames don't take a mount.
Inkthreadable's mounts are cut from White Core mountboard in Iced White, our house colour.
- 1.4 mm (1400 micron) mountboard.
- White core, so the cut edge of the window stays white.
- Acid-free and pH-neutral - pH 7.5 to 9.5 through the top paper, core and backing.
- Conservation-grade.
- Aperture centred and symmetric, so one mount works in portrait or landscape.
The big changes
Three things change on 14 September: the colour range, the option of a mount, and the price.
1. Eight new frame colours
Black, white and oak are staying, though the specification of these will be updated to match the new colours. The colours joining the original three are: bright red, orange, yellow, dark green, sky blue, pink, dark grey and royal blue.
All are solid obeche with a 21 mm face and a 22 mm depth. The ten painted colours (including white and black) are sprayed, and oak is stained, with the natural grain visible.
2. Mounts on A2, A3 and A4
Art prints can be framed up to A2. A1 frames aren't available, though you can continue selling unframed A1 art prints.
Every frame colour at A2, A3 and A4 can take a mount. A5 frames are not available for mounting. Bamboo has no A4 mounted option either, because a mounted A4 holds an A5 print and we don't stock Bamboo paper at A5.
| Size | Bamboo | Lustre | Matte | ||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Unframed | Framed | Mounted | Unframed | Framed | Mounted | Unframed | Framed | Mounted | |
| A1 594 × 841 | |||||||||
| A2 420 × 594 | |||||||||
| A3 297 × 420 | |||||||||
| A4 210 × 297 | |||||||||
| A5 148 × 210 | |||||||||
3. Price changes
There will be a slight increase in the fulfilment cost for all frames to reflect an increase in product quality. The difference varies by size, with the biggest increase being for the A2 frames.
Black, white and oak frames are listed as 'Standard' below, and the eight new colours are listed as 'Colours'. The tables outline how costs vary between papers, frame colours and mounts.

What you need to do
If your products are integrated with Inkthreadable, we'll update them to the new frames automatically on 14 September. Your listings stay live and your existing variants map across, so there's no disruption to fulfilment. You may want to review your own pricing so you aren't undercharging your customers once the new prices go live.
If you'd rather your product links weren't updated automatically, email info@inkthreadable.co.uk before 14 September. Let us know the email your account is linked to and we'll leave your framed prints alone. Opting out unlinks those products, so you'll need to link them manually afterwards, or create and export new products to get an active link.
Two things are worth doing when the new frames go live:
- Refresh your mockups. The rebuilt frames have a slightly different profile from the current black, white and oak, and every new colour has its own mockup, including an option to add a mount. Mockups don't update automatically, so you'll need to download them from the product page and upload them to your store yourself.
- Order a sample of anything new you plan to list. Especially a mounted one if you haven't sold mounted prints before. We'll send a sample discount code for the new framed products when they go live.
Frequently asked questions
Do my current listings break on the 14th?
No. Inkthreadable isn't discontinuing anything and no variant is removed. Black, white and oak carry on under the same names.
Are black, white and oak actually different now?
The moulding is rebuilt to the same profile as the eight new colours, so the whole range shares one specification from 14 September. The colour and the finish are unchanged.
Can I use the same artwork for framed and mounted?
Yes. Upload once at the A-series size and it works for both. A mounted frame takes the next size down, so the file you supply matches the print size rather than the frame size.
Why is a mounted Bamboo A3 cheaper than a framed one?
A mounted A3 frame holds an A4 print, and Bamboo A4 paper costs less than Bamboo A3. That saving is larger than the cost the mount adds, so the mounted version is cheaper than the framed one.
What happens to my integrated products?
Inkthreadable updates them to the new frames automatically on 14 September, and your listings stay live throughout. If you'd rather they were unlinked instead, email info@inkthreadable.co.uk before the 14th.
Is there a minimum order?
No. Inkthreadable has no minimum order on framed prints, so one is fine.
